Our goal at SAWP is to provide a safe and supportive space for women and their children affected by gender-based violence, where they can share their experiences, support one another, and begin investing in themselves toward financial independence. Alongside fostering a strong, caring community, SAWP offers skill-based resources, education, and empowerment support to help survivors achieve self-sufficiency
SAWP-এর লক্ষ্য হলো লিঙ্গভিত্তিক সহিংসতায় আক্রান্ত নারী ও তাদের সন্তানদের জন্য একটি নিরাপদ ও সহায়ক পরিবেশ তৈরি করা, যেখানে তারা তাদের অভিজ্ঞতা ভাগ করে নিতে পারে, একে অপরকে সহায়তা করতে পারে এবং আর্থিক স্বনির্ভরতার পথে নিজেদের বিনিয়োগ শুরু করতে পারে। একটি শক্তিশালী ও সহানুভূতিশীল সম্প্রদায় গড়ে তোলার পাশাপাশি, SAWP বেঁচে থাকা নারীদের স্বনির্ভর হতে সহায়তা করার জন্য দক্ষতাভিত্তিক সম্পদ, শিক্ষা এবং ক্ষমতায়নমূলক সহায়তা প্রদান করে।

Years of Experience
Our Story
South Asian Women Project (SAWP) was founded in 2020 by Rahnum Tasnuva, a Bengali survivor of intimate partner violence (IPV), who experienced firsthand the barriers faced by women in her community. Recognizing the need for culturally specific and linguistically accessible services within the Bangladeshi diaspora, Rahnum set out to create a safe, informed space for survivors of gender-based violence and their families.
The project began as an online community providing virtual support through social media platforms, and that community continues to grow. SAWP offers a safe environment where women and their children can share experiences, support one another, learn about their rights, and develop skills toward financial independence. From its early online beginnings to local outreach and volunteer recruitment, SAWP has grown into a trusted resource for the Bengali community, with a strong focus on healing, empowerment, and community building.
In addition to serving the New York City area, SAWP has expanded its services to survivors across the United States, becoming a nationwide support network for the Bangladeshi community.
সাউথ এশিয়ান উইমেন প্রজেক্ট (SAWP) প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় ২০২০ সালে রাহনুম তাসনুভার উদ্যোগে। তিনি একজন বাংলা ভাষাভাষী অন্তরঙ্গ সঙ্গীর সহিংসতার (IPV) বেঁচে থাকা নারী, যিনি নিজেই first hand দেখেছেন তার কমিউনিটির নারীরা কী ধরনের প্রতিবন্ধকতার মুখোমুখি হয়। বাংলাদেশি প্রবাসী কমিউনিটির জন্য সংস্কৃতিভিত্তিক ও ভাষাগতভাবে সহজলভ্য সেবার প্রয়োজনীয়তা উপলব্ধি করে, রাহনুম লিঙ্গভিত্তিক সহিংসতার শিকার নারী ও তাদের পরিবারের জন্য একটি নিরাপদ ও সহায়ক স্থান গড়ে তোলার উদ্যোগ নেন।
প্রকল্পটি প্রথমে অনলাইন কমিউনিটি হিসেবে শুরু হয়, যেখানে সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যমে ভার্চুয়াল সাপোর্ট প্রদান করা হয়—এবং এই কমিউনিটি ক্রমাগতভাবে বাড়ছে। SAWP এমন একটি নিরাপদ পরিবেশ প্রদান করে যেখানে নারী ও তাদের সন্তানরা নিজেদের অভিজ্ঞতা শেয়ার করতে পারে, একে অপরকে সহায়তা করতে পারে, নিজেদের অধিকার সম্পর্কে জানতে পারে এবং আর্থিক স্বনির্ভরতার জন্য দক্ষতা অর্জন করতে পারে। অনলাইন কার্যক্রমের প্রাথমিক সূচনা থেকে শুরু করে স্থানীয়ভাবে সচেতনতা বৃদ্ধি ও স্বেচ্ছাসেবক সংগ্রহ পর্যন্ত, SAWP আজ বাংলাদেশি কমিউনিটির জন্য একটি বিশ্বস্ত সহায়ক সংস্থা হয়ে উঠেছে, যার মূল লক্ষ্য হলো আরোগ্য, ক্ষমতায়ন ও কমিউনিটি গঠন।
নিউ ইয়র্ক সিটি এলাকায় সেবা দেওয়ার পাশাপাশি, SAWP বর্তমানে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বিভিন্ন অঙ্গরাজ্যে বসবাসরত বেঁচে থাকা নারীদের প্রতিও সেবা সম্প্রসারিত করেছে এবং বাংলাদেশি কমিউনিটির জন্য একটি জাতীয় পর্যায়ের সাপোর্ট নেটওয়ার্কে পরিণত হয়েছে।
